SSS Nabs Turai Yar’Adua’s ‘Special Adviser’

A 33 year-old man, Abdulhamid Mas’ud El-wazir, who parades himself as a ‘Special Adviser’ to the wife of President Umaru Musa Yar'Adua, Turai, has been arrested by the State Security Service (SSS) after attempting to purchase four exotic bullet proof cars worth N230 million.
The suspect, who is from Niger State, also claimed to be the son of the current chairman of Kontagora local government council in Niger State.
He was arrested in Kaduna state when he went to a popular car sales depot and sought to purchase four bullet-proof cars that included a Mercedes Benz ML550; Mercedes Benz ML5500; BMW550; and a Honda Accord V6 2009 model , as well as two other cars, estimated at N230 million.
The cars, he explained to the car dealer, were to be taken to the office of the First Lady and requested that a proforma invoice be prepared in the name of the First Lady, a development which gradually arose suspicion leading to a tip-off , leading to his arrest by the SSS.
Items recovered from the suspect included an identity card, purportedly from the office of the First Lady, chequebooks from three banks, picture of himself with some white couple and another picture of himself taken within the premises of the National Assembly.
Assistant Director of Operations of the SSS, Brown Ekwoaba, who paraded the suspect before newsmen, asked Nigerians to be wary of such characters and immediately report suspicious persons to law enforcement agencies.
He also added that the agency is fastracking investigation into the matter and that the suspect will be arraigned in court soon.
The suspect, when interviewed by THISDAY, however disclosed that such attempt at impersonation was not the first time, but claimed that he only went to the car depot to help sell the car and get commission from the owner of the cars.
He also insisted that his father is the current chairman of Kontagora local government council.
