Eagles to train for five days before Tunisia game

AHEAD of the crucial South Africa 2010 World Cup qualifying match against Tunisia on September 6, the Super Eagles camp will open on the 31st of this month, with all the invited players expected to arrive in the yet-to-be-decided venue same day.

Coach Shaibu Amodu, who was at the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) secretariat yesterday, met with the NFF President, Sanni Lulu Abdulahi, as well as the technical committee chairman, Taiwo Ogunjobi, to submit his programme and the list of players he needs for the game.

The Guardian learnt that Amodu and the NFF bigwigs agreed that invitation letters should be sent out to the players on time to facilitate their early release by their clubs, bearing in mind that the players would soon be involved in their various foreign leagues, which would have kicked off before the match. A source at the NFF revealed that the body also planned to mobilise Abuja fans to ensure that the Eagles receive a massive support during the match, which comes up at the Abuja National Stadium.

"The federation is making efforts to ensure that fans are mobilised to cheer the Eagles to victory against the Tunisians on September 6," the source said.

Nigeria needs to beat Tunisia to stand in good stead of qualifying for the World Cup. The Super Eagles are second with seven points in Group B behind the Tunisians, who have nine points. Other countries in the group are Kenya and Mozambique.
