CHAIRMAN of the Nigeria Premier League (NPL) board, chief Oyuki Obaseki has called on the Federal Government to begin a project aimed at rebranding football in Nigeria.
Speaking at the international seminar held on Wednesday at the Shekinah Hotel, Ilorin, Obaseki pointed out that efforts should be intensified by the authorities to give Nigerian football a new lease of life.
He however, expressed regret at the decision not to give the television league coverage rights to the Africa Independent Television (AIT) saying that the NPL never got the value wanted from the Nigeria Television Authority.
“I tender my apology for denying AIT the television rights because I thought I would do Nigerians a favour by giving it to the NTA,” said Obaseki who claimed that the NTA in the last three years has not paid the N250million TV rights, whereas it could afford to pay up to £3million to beam the English Premiership matches live weekly. |
