Our partnership with NPL made Nigerian League No. 1 – Globacom

Telecoms giant, Globacom Limited last Saturday in Ilorin basked in the euphoria of the emergence of the Globacom Premier League as the number one league in Africa , assuring all stakeholders that it will continue to explore all possible avenues to sustain and improve on the gains already achieved by the league.

The assurance was offered by the telecommunications giant at a glamorous and well attended Globacom Premier League Awards ceremony held at the Banquet Hall of Kwara Hotels which marked the end of the 2009 Glo Super 4 tournament.

Modele Sarafa-Yusuf, the company’s Head of Sponsored Assets in an address she delivered on behalf of the Group Chief Operating Officer, said the partnership between Globacom and Nigeria Premier League (NPL) has seen the league attain premier position in Africa .

“Today, we are gathered as one football family to celebrate excellence and achievement of our players and administrators on the field of play at the end of a keenly contested and classy competition. This celebration is coming at a time that the Globacom Premier league is riding on the crest of international recognition as the number one league in Africa . It is a cheering news to us at Globacom, given our unflinching support for Nigerian football through our sponsorship commitments across all levels”, remarked Sarafa-Yusuf.

Shortly before presenting the new all-crystal Globacom Premier League trophy to the NPL Chairman, Chief Oyuki Obaseki, Sarafa-Yusuf said the introduction of the awards night in 2006 was part of Globacom’s initiative to make the league a one-stop football package of sport, entertainment, glamour and reward.

“We are proud that our association with the league has attracted both local and foreign corporate interests. It is a mark of the value Globacom has added to the game since the partnership was initiated over six years ago and we will continue to explore all possibilities to take the game to greater heights,” she assured.

Chief Obaseki described the presentation of the new trophy and a replica as a further testimony that the relationship between Globacom and the NPL is for the good of the game.

In his words; “no Globacom, no football in Nigeria . This new trophy is a confirmation that ours is a partnership for life and on behalf of the NPL and the entire football family, I wish to thank the Chairman of Globacom, Dr. Mike Adenuga Jr. for this magnificent trophy”.
